Each year, the Covington Fire Department responds to, on average, over 250 calls for service. Those calls include everything from structure fires, to hazardous materials calls, to brush fires, vehicle fires and mutual aid calls, where we assist not only other fire departments in our surrounding area, but also assist other city of Covington agencies, such as the Covington Rescue Squad, Covington Police Department and others. Below are calls for the current month. March 2012 Call 59 - Thurs., March 1, 6:17 p.m. The department was called to 335 E. Fudge St. for a fire alarm activation. Fourteen firefighters and two pieces of equipment responded. Call 60 - Fri., March 2, 8:35 a.m. The department was called to Julian Drive, in the Dolly Ann area, for a ruptured gas line. Thirteen firefighters and two pieces of equipment responded. Call 61 - Fri., March 2, 1:33 p.m. The department was called to the Compare Inn on Interstate Drive for a fire alarm activation. Five firefighters responded. Call 62 - Sat., March 3, 3:48 p.m. The department was called to 333 E. Oak St. to assist the Covington Rescue Squad. Two firefighters responded. Call 63 - Sat., March 3, 5:52 p.m. The department was called to 501 E. Cherry St. for a report of a smell of natural gas. Thirty-one firefighters and three pieces of equipment responded. Call 64 - Sun., March 4, 3:36 a.m. The department was called to the 300 block of East Hawthorne Street for a motor-vehicle accident. Sixteen firefighters and four pieces of equipment responded. Call 65 - Mon., March 5, 7:32 a.m. The department was called to 414 E. Kline St. to assist the Covington Rescue Squad. Three firefighters responded. Call 66 - Thurs., March 8, 1:47 a.m. The department was called to 104 Whitney Rd. in High Acres for a possible structure fire. Fourteen firefighters and five pieces of equipment responded. Call 67 - Thurs., March 8, 8:30 a.m. The department was called to the 500 block of Dolly Ann Drive for a possible natural gas leak. Nothing was found. Ten firefighters and two pieces of equipment responded. Call 68 - Thurs., March 8, 2:28 p.m. The department was called to Interstate 64 for a motor-vehicle accident. Nineteen firefighters and three pieces of equipment responded. Call 69 - Thurs., March 8, 8:57 p.m. The department was called to Interstate 64, milemarker 21 in the eastbound lane for a motor-vehicle accident. Sixteen firefighters and four pieces of equipment responded. Call 70 - Sat., March 10, 11:33 a.m. The department was called to Interstate 64, milemarker 16, westbound lane for a motor-vehicle accident. Thirteen firefighters and four pieces of equipment responded. Call 71 - Sat., March 10, 7:19 p.m. The department was called to the intersection of Alleghany Avenue and Hickory Street for a motor-vehicle accident. Twenty-one firefighters and three pieces of equipment responded. Call 72 - Sun., March 11, 12:07 a.m. The department was called to Dolly Ann Hollow for a motor-vehicle accident. Ten firefighters and four pieces of equipment responded. Call 73 - Sun., March 11, 7:18 a.m. The department was called to the Quality Inn at 429 W. Main Street for a fire alarm activation. Eleven firefighters and three pieces of equipment responded.
